This paper,
due 2008, states that we,
in this 2004 paper,
applied the Proper Orthogonal Decomposition to
"... systems represented by simple analytical models featuring
a few degrees of freedom" (page 3),
to be able to claim that they first applied it to large systems (in 2006-2008!).
Actually, in that paper, we already applied the Proper Orthogonal Decomposition
to a multibody model of a helicopter sitting on the landing gear,
undergoing ground resonance.
The model accounted for about 800 equations; in this earlier
2003 paper,
the same procedure was applied to the analysis of a tiltrotor aeroelastic model
with more than 1000 equations, and from that time on, we routinely apply
that method to the analysis of large multibody systems, including rotorcraft
and tiltrotor models with thousands of equations.
Either they did not read the paper, or what?
